Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) has set-up an internal control and audit unit for WEWE-LOPIN2 project. The unit exists to ensure full compliance to USAID financial rules and regulations, Nigerian external rules and regulations as well as WEWE internal policies, procedures and practices. This was set up based on findings from the assessment of WEWE USAID-funded project, Local Partners Initiative for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria, (LOPIN-2) by PwC as stated in their management letter on page 2, dated September 29, 2016 PwC “consider the control environment of WEWE require attention in some areas”,

The unit is to make WEWE have one of the strongest control environments in Nigeria. One of the key strength of the unit is that staffs carry out pre and post review of financial transactions which means that all financial transactions are reviewed before and after expended in line with WEWE, USAID and other international financial procedures. WEWE is one of the organizations’ that is doing pre-and-post financial reviews.

The internal control and audit unit is currently man by a team of three staff with high profile experience as detailed below:

Okafor Immaculata Amaka is a Chartered Accountant with over seven years’ experience in accounting, finance, taxation and audit. She graduated from Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri with upper credit in Accountancy. She further proceeded to Oxford Brookes University, United kingdom where she also bagged a First Class of Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Applied Accounting. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Noble Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). She won ICAN prize as the best female qualifying student in the year that she qualified. She is also a member of Nigerian Institute of Management. Monday Adams, WEWE-LOPIN2 Internal Auditor

Mr. Monday Adam holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting (Second Class Upper Division 2.1) from Delta State University, Abraka and a Master’s of Business Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is also an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) and a certified Practitioner in Project Management.

He brings on board pertinent experience in internal audit and compliance acquired over eight years working with different organizations including the United Nations office for Project Services. Monday works in the unit as the internal auditor.

 

Yvonne Okeke, Associate Internal Auditor

Yvonne Okeke obtained her Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from Covenant University with a first class in Accounting in the year 2016. During her undergraduate years she began her journey to becoming a chartered accountant by successfully completing the Accounting Technicians Scheme which is under the jurisdiction of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria (ICAN). Thus, she is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians West Africa (AATWA). Presently, she is a student member of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA) which is a globally recognised accounting body. She also aims to complete her Institute of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria (ICAN) qualification in the nearest future. She also holds a Diploma in Leadership Development from African Leadership Development Centre in Covenant University.

She also gained professional work experience during her undergraduate years from two different organisations. She served as a Finance and Accounts Intern in the Ministry of Finance Headquarters, Abuja.  Also she has served as an Audit Intern in the renowned Fred Okonta and Co Chartered Accountants Firm in Abuja.
